I have been enjoying the rhythm of daily posts here. I find with most things that once you get into a daily groove you actually really look forward to something. I need to get back to that daily rhythm of exercise for myself, but for now I will remain content with what I have here in this space.
We can tend to be an on the go kind of family at times but lately we have been home-bodies and it feels just right. Today was a hang at home kind of day doing simple things like cooking, washing dishes, and playing “office”.
We are gearing up for a birthday of a certain 8 year old around here. A spaghetti dinner and chocolate fondue (again) have been requested and an exciting present is in the works. More to come…….
a not so busy day involving some curried vegetable soup, a visit to our local cafe for a treat, some knitting and watching these.
what did you do today?
Wow we had a fun filled day and our bellies are full! The morning started with the opening of valentine boxes which were full of chocolates, hearts, love notes, and even new umbrellas. Then it was strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast and of course a few chocolates too. Papa and I found a valentine box that I had made for him many, many moons ago. Over the past 18 years he has filled it with love notes, movie and museum tickets, playbills, train tickets, letters and more. It was so fun looking through it all together today. And the girls had fun listening to stories of our past of courting and falling in love. After the morning festivities, it was off to the great outdoors (well just our backyard) to make a snow family complete with rosy red cheeks. When my toes were numb, indoors I went to start a dinner of homemade macaroni and cheese (recipe from here ) , and collards greens with stewed tomatoes. We still found room for chocolate fondue with fruit for dessert and to top it off since today also celebrates the Chinese new year we celebrated with some fortune cookies. While were we out building in the snow Hannah turned to me and said “Mama this is the nicest Valentines Day ever.” I couldn’t have agreed more. Hope you all had a day full of love and of course a little chocolate too. xo
Not sure if you know this adorable lady ,but she is the absolute best. She sent us the most amazing package yesterday. I seriously had goosebumps as I unwrapped it to find the most wonderful goodies inside. And, as I peeled away each layer, it just kept getting better. A darling little felt valentine heart now lives in our nature corner. I can’t get enough of that divine lavender eye pillow made from fabric which I adore. A book was sent for the girls from E which could not have had come at a more perfect time considering the amount of snow we have had and our version of this book has just recently fallen to pieces. A sweet little paper banner, made with the most fun little patterns, now lives in our drawing corner. And, I can’t wait to get some frames for those beautiful photos done by the very talented Erin . Especially for that fabulous, fun one of her! Yes that is exactly what I felt like doing when I opened up my mailbox yesterday, jumping for joy for new found friends. Thanks Erin, Sasa, and Elisabeth. xoxoxoxoxo
We are snowed in here and loving it. I need me a pair of these!
Nothing like a little orange to brighten up a dark snowy day! We are a little addicted to clementines around these parts. Yesterday I bought a crate and they were the most perfect clementines of the season. The perfect combination of sour and sweet. We ate the entire crate in just a few hours, mostly because they were so good but also you see, Mama here, is a champion peeler. Papa challenged me to peel 2 in under 15 seconds. Then I had to see if I could beat that. And then there were peels everywhere, and little clementine boats to be eaten, puckered lips, sticky hands, and yes before you know it the crate was gone. So, out I went at 9 pm to get us not one, but two more crates of clementines, or cuties as the name tag states. We are now set for the storm to get our daily boost of vitamin C, and have some more peeling contests. And yes another song for my ukulele is in order!
We are hunkering down and getting ready for yet another storm. Two more feet of snow is on it’s way and coming in tonight. The pantry is stocked for me to make some soup, banana bread and maybe some of these are in order. A new hat was made ( pattern from here ) to keep a little one’s head warm for out playing in the snow. I am not quite sure where all of the snow will go, considering my backyard already looks like the above, but who cares! We’re ready for fires, hot chocolate, some knitting, and maybe a movie or two. I am feeling in the mood for this one. Isn’t that song just the greatest? Another one for me to learn on my uke!
It is a winter wonderland over here in these parts! 20 some inches of snow! We have not seen this much in quite some time and we hear there is more on it’s way maybe in a few days. The snow started on Friday night. We had the pleasure of being invited to stay over for a slumber party by the cutest family ever. They only live a few blocks away but what fun it was watching the snow fall down with them, snuggled by the fire, especially since one of them is very, very interested in weather and it’s patterns. We got minute by minute updates on inches fallen, what states had been shut down, and how deep it was right out in his own back yard. He also happens to make some amazing french toast. Later on Saturday we hunkered down at home to watch the storm slowly calm down. There was some sewing and drawing mixed in with reading books and a movie. Today I think we will be out shoveling ourselves out and maybe a sled down a hill or two.
Hannah has a new found love and lucky for us her uncle is a wonderful musician and classical guitar teacher. I myself have been itching to learn a new instrument. This is my new found love. I am saving up my allowance for one. I fiddled around with a beautiful one of a friends last weekend playing songs from here and fell in love. I would love to learn this song..
