This little guy is still coming around. He’ll be 5 years old this spring and comes to visit almost every day.
He’ll look for me through the kitchen window to remind me that it’s time to meet him on the back porch with some nuts.
He is especially liking cashews these days.
He and Chris still have quite a bond. Earl will sit on Chris’s lap and eat right from his hand.
Yesterday we spotted a red tail hawk in a tree across the street. It was feasting on it’s prey. We gasped when we realized it was a squirrel!
We were so relieved to have this visit from little Earl later that day. Phew!

Amy, I am literally laughing out loud at myself – I’ve been following the saga of Earl from the beginning, and I don’t think I realized until today that he’s Earl the Squirrel, and the rhyme is probably why the name was chosen! I just thought he happened to have a very dignified name! I’m enjoying your posts lately, and you’re definitely the right person to post about vignettes – you do them so well. 🙂

Earl is so adorable! We have two of Earl”s distant cousins eating all the bird seed from our feeders. Do you think if we feed the squirrel’s regularly, their own food, they will be less inclined to eat all of the bird feed? I love visiting your blog, it is so peaceful to me. Thank you!

Hey there, here’s a tip: NEVER use the birdseed mixes. They are full of thistle seed, the type with prickly, nasty leaves. Your garden and your neighbor’s garden will thank you. We always use black oiled sunflower seeds. They’re the best. They will self-sow under your feeders, so you should have some lovely sunflowers as well. We have a variety of birds visit our yard. Our favorite is the pileated woodpecker. P.S. Your blog is lovely.
