a few scenes from our saturday. a wonderfully lazy one.
1. i have been lighting candles every night. today was snowy and a bit grey which called for some afternoon candlelight.
2. i turned 41 this week. gifts from my sister are always my favorite.
3. today was a nachos kind of day. i pulled out a jar of pickled sweet and spicy peppers we canned this summer.
4. chris is away on retreat this weekend with my pop. nan came to stay with us.
5. i cannot get enough of pomegranates these days. i put the seeds in salads, oatmeal or just simply eat with a spoon.
how was your day?

Hello! This is joyluck76 from instagram. I’ve been following your blog for a while now. Can no longer remember how I found it but I devoured it. Love your house and your yard, how you really see your girls and the amazing handmade gifts your friends and family create. I find so much inspiration in how much you appreciate every little thing. My father died two and half years ago and it was such a sad time. It was blogs and instagram feeds like yours that opened my eyes to focusing on what I had in my life that was beautiful right now, in this moment. I used my camera phone to start taking pictures of all the little things that could brighten up my day if I would be sure to just see them and appreciate. Strangely, that first year after my dad passed became both the saddest and happiest of my life. Anyway, lest I start to sound too dramatic, it’s truly a gift that you share what inspires you here as I so often walk away inspired myself. And, happy belated birthday. My birthday was last Sunday. Turned 38. Live in Seattle and will be watching the Seahawks in the Superbowl in just one week!

Happy Birthday! This is our birthday time of year too (mine was last Friday – 37! Woah!)
We have 8 pomegranates sitting on our counter top as I type. We’ve been loving them on salads (or plain.) And the flowering bulbs! Yay for sweet scents and gorgeous blooms. My favorite part is watching them grow and bud up.

I love that your nan came to stay with you…what a blessing. My mom always set a nice table, too. I do, as well, but occasionally serve rice in the pot and put the bottle of ketchup on the table. I guess I’ve got a happy medium going in the food presentation dept. 😉

I just found your lovely blog and wanted to say hello. I have been reading through some of your old posts and love seeing peeks at your pretty house with all your special touches. In the photo above the branch picture or card holder idea is very cool.
